For a num­ber of rea­sons func­tional lan­guages are mak­ing inroads into every­day pro­gram­ming. Although not inher­ently more com­pli­cated that pro­ce­dural lan­guages there seems to be a con­cep­tual pro­belm for the pro­ce­dural pro­gram­mer to make the jump to Func­tional.
One of the more pop­u­lar func­tional lan­guages is Haskell and this is a good arti­cle on how to make the switch.
